Route Description

From Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Amsterdam by taxi:
The ride from the airport is 20 minutes to half an hour, depending on traffic. The costs will be around € 45.

From Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Amsterdam by train and metro:
By public transport your transfer should not take much more time than a taxi ride. The train ride from the airport to Central Station (€ 3.60 for a single journey) takes about 20 minutes, and from there you can either walk to the apartment (a 7 minute walk) or transfer to the metro to Nieuwmarkt station.

Take the metro from Central Station to Oude Waal:
Any metro departing from the metro terminal at Central station will stop at Nieuwmarkt (first station). Get tickets at the airport railway station for both your train ride and a chipcard for your metro ride. You will need to buy an OV-chipcard. See below for more info on the OV-chipcard.

A three-minute walk from the metrostation to the apartment:
Make sure you disembark at the correct exit at Nieuwmarkt station: it is marked 'Koningstraat.' When you get to street level, take a left turn and then turn right at the first alley: 'Brandewijnsteeg'. Walk straight across the little bridge that crosses the 'Rechtboomsloot'. Then cross the street, take a right and immediately turn left onto the schoolyard: 'Lastageweg'.

Cross the playground and at the end of the road just before the bridge, turn right and you are on the Oude Waal.

Walk from Central Station to Oude Waal:
Walk out of the station on the south / centre side and take a left turn across the busstation. Cross the bridge and cross the 'Prins Hendrikkade' at the traffic lights. Turn left and take the second street on your right hand: 'Geldersekade'. Follow this street for about 500 meters and then turn left into the 'Binnenbantammerstraat'. At the end of the street just before the bridge you will find 'Oude Waal' on your right hand.

Take a taxi from Central Station to Oude Waal:
A taxi ride from Central Station is a good alternative if you have a lot of luggage, it will cost you around € 8 - € 10. You can take a taxi outside Central Station. Please note that the ride is very short, and that some taxi drivers may refuse to do the ride, unfortunately.

Please beware of pickpockets and luggage thieves on these train and tramlines! They know you are tired after your flight, and not as alert as you would normally be. They are very active on these lines!

The OV-Chipcard:

It is an electronic card with a built-in chip for use on all public transport in Amsterdam including buses, trams and metros. Please note: the cards are not valid on regional buses or trains (including to/from Schipol Airport).

The OV-chipkaart can be topped up with credit in euros, or with a single or season ticket. There’s three different cards to choose from: anonymous (anonieme), personalized (persoonlijke) and disposable.

- Personalised card – buy online or from your  public transport organisation. Costs 7, 50 euros and is valid for five years.

- Anonymous card – buy at the ticket office or station vending machines. Costs 7, 50 euros and is valid for five years.

- Disposable card - buy at station vending machines or on the tram. Prices vary but card cannot be recharged.

To activate your OV-chipkaart, simply hold it in front of the yellow card readers. These can be found on all trams, buses and platforms. At metro stations, the machines are part of freestanding pillars. Disposable cards will already be credited but for all other cards, you need sufficient credit or a travel product, such as a season ticket, if you wish to make a journey.

Most importantly: check in and check out.  When you start your journey, hold your card up to the reader until a green light appears. A bleep sound will indicate that your card has been read. If you change to another bus/tram/metro, you have to check out (by scanning your card at the machine), and check in again at your next stop. If you forget to check out, the card will no longer be valid and you may risk a fine.

Parking in Amsterdam:

Please note that there is paid parking in the city center seven days a week at € 5.00 per hour or € 43 per day. If you come by car it is probably easier to use one of the parking garages in the neighbourhood: Waterlooplein or Markenhoven . Rates tend to be slightly better, and it avoids having to 'fill the meter' at odd times. A much better deal is a Park & Ride option at the Transferium Arena: around € 5.50 per 24 hours for the first 4 days, including free metro tickets to deliver you to the Nieuwmarkt station, just around the corner from the apartment.

With the aparment we have a parkingspace for one car. Please inquire about availability when you make a reservation. The costs are 25 euros per night during your stay at the apartment.
